My Morning Skincare Routine
Hello there. If you follow me on social media then you know how much I love skincare and value taking care of my skin. Over the years, I have tried so many products and I can finally say that I have found the ones that work for my skin (for now!) I wanted to share with you my morning skincare routine. I truly believe you can spend thousands of dollars on products and still not have healthy and glowing skin. So keep in mind that I try my very best (on top of all these steps) to also drink a ton of water and eat my fruits and veggies. I have seen that make a HUGGGGEEE difference in my skin texture and sensitivity. These steps ensure that I maintain that healthy skin, prevent breakouts, and clean out my pores daily. Mornings are sacred for me and I truly enjoy my "me time" at the start of my day. It's usually quiet in my house. Either my roommates are still sleeping or they are about to leave for work. I love waking up, having a glass of water, and putting some chill music on. I've been trying this thing where I don't allow myself to go on my phone for the first 30 minutes that I wake up. I've noticed just by giving myself 30 minutes to wake up, get hydrated and set the tone for a positive day, that my day is much better and I feel so much more able to take on whatever may come.
#1. Gentle Cleanser
I start off with a gentle cleaner in the morning because I don't have any make-up on and I did extensively wash my face the night before. I love washing my face as my first step in getting ready in the morning. It wakes me up, makes me feel clean and happy to apply any make-up on that I would need that day. Because I have dry + sensitive skin, I like cleansers that are organic, gentle, and has a jelly/smooth texture. My favorite cleanser is the Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser.
I love this stuff because it conditions my skin at the same time of cleaning deep into my pores. It's great at melting away any left over make up, sweat, or bacteria, and it's gentle enough to not pull at my skin. It's perfect for all skin types and also aids in re-balancing your ph-balance.
#2. Hydrating Toner
Toner is so important for many reasons. The first reason is that toner is much stronger at penetrating the layers of your skin and basically killing any bacteria, oil or pre-oil that could cause breakouts. So if you are acne prone, break out during your period, travel a bunch or know you won't be eating healthy - lather on that tone. Another great use toner has is shrinking pores. Once bacteria, make-up, dirt, or oil gets into your pores not only does it clog your pores resulting in a pimple, but it also stretches your pores making them larger. Large pores create texture on your face making it seem as though your face is bumpy when it's just your pores that are large. Toner cleans out your pores preventing them from getting big overtime. Small pore + no breakouts = smooth skin forever! My favorite tone is the Hydrating Toner from Context Skincare.
#4. Serum + Moisturizer
These are my favorite steps in the morning because it boosts hydration for my dry skin and it gives me a glow. Serums and moisturizers are great for all skin types and are both very needed in your skincare routine. Serums are great for so many things. The best thing to remember when grabbing your serum is that they are chock-full of moisturizing ingredients and you can always find one for your specific skin needs. For me, I look for serums that are for dry + sensitive skin and don't have any dyes or perfumes in them. I love the Derma E Hydrating Serum a lot. It's affordable and can be found either on Amazon or certain Ulta's. As for Moisturizer, I use a couple different ones. Every day I use the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.
This is so important and gets overlooked a lot. Make up lovers tend to skip this step because either they feel sunscreen will dilute the color of foundation and give a "flash back" effect to the skin when taking photos with make up on or they get a foundation with SPF in it and call it a day. What's amazing is that the skin on your face is much thinner and sensitive than the skin everywhere else. This means that it has a higher potential of getting damaged by the sun, even if the only daylight you see is when you walk to and from your car. Protecting your skin from the sun prevents dark spots, de-hydration (which can age your skin quickly), wrinkles, dry + dull skin, and texture.
